Unitree's robot showcase at UFC Fight Night 257 in Shanghai: what is known, and where the reports disagree

Before UFC Fight Night 257 on 23 August 2025, Unitree showed combat robots with Dana White. It was an exhibition, not a scored bout, and sources disagree on whether the robot was the G1 or H1 and whether it was remote-controlled.

Hosted on YouTube. Roboxing does not host this video.

On 23 August 2025, before UFC Fight Night 257 at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium, Unitree Robotics showed humanoid robots in a combat exhibition with the UFC's chief executive, Dana White, in the ring. It was a promotional showcase, not a scored fight, and the reports that exist disagree on basic details. This is what they say.

What happened. Robotics247, reporting on 2 September 2025, says Unitree humanoids that had trained with UFC athletes took part in an MMA-style exhibition refereed by White, and that Unitree also ran a booth outside the arena, where White met Unitree CEO Wang Xingxing. Robotic Gizmos (28 August 2025) quotes Unitree's own post on X the same day: "Join UFC President Dana White and look at the fighting skills of Unitree's combat robots!", titled "Robot UFC Pre-Fight Showcase." Unitree's YouTube channel carries a short with the same title, "Robot UFC Pre-Fight Showcase @ufc". We have not been able to read its upload date.

Which robot. Sources disagree. TechEBlog (29 August 2025) says the machine was the Unitree G1, about 4.6 feet tall and roughly 77 pounds. Robotics247 says G1 in its opening line and H1 in its body text and a photo caption. Robotic Gizmos names no model. We do not state a model.

Controlled or scripted. Also unsettled. Robotic Gizmos calls the robots remote-controlled. TechEBlog says the team showed the G1 walking, balancing and performing pre-programmed combat moves, and that White himself tried controlling a robot remotely when he met Unitree earlier in August. Robotics247 does not say. Nothing we read describes a robot choosing its own moves in the ring.

What it was not. No source reports a winner, a score, a rule set or two robots officially competing for a result. Roboxing's record counts it as an exhibition, not a bout.

Why it matters. It is the clearest sign that a major combat-sports brand was willing to put humanoid robots in front of its audience, three months after Unitree G1 robots boxed in the May 2025 humanoid boxing tournament that Robotics247 calls the CMG World Robot Tournament. It did not lead to a UFC-sanctioned robot league that we can find: today's fights are run by REK, Ultimate Bots, Shadow Combat League, URKL, ARC and others, not by the UFC.

We will update this if Unitree or the UFC publishes a fuller account.
